At Orchard, we pride ourselves on researching and developing software tools that laboratory professionals can use to make their jobs easier and more productive, helping them maximize their value. We are also in tune with current healthcare and industry trends. These two factors have led to the development of our point-of-care testing (POCT) integration and management software, Orchard® Trellis™. From a reimbursement perspective, Trellis’ capability to automate POCT billing and help close care gaps using CPT II Codes makes the solution applicable for both fee-for-service (FFS) reimbursements and for value-based or performance-based contracts.
Laboratory professionals have long struggled with the conundrum of having non-laboratory trained operators performing point-of-care testing (POCT), which can result in pre-analytical errors. With the continued growth of POCT, this concern remains valid. To attempt to address this area of shortcoming, the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) has launched a new certification for POCT operators, specifically non-laboratory trained healthcare workers who perform POCT. Those individuals who complete the certification process and pass will be Certified Point-of-Care Testing Professionals (CPP).
The 70th AACC Annual Scientific Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo—a global conference and exhibit for laboratory professionals—was held July 29–August 2 in Chicago. There were more than 200 sessions that covered a range of topics, from using molecular diagnostics for targeted cancer therapies to identifying genetic defects for liver disease to the use of CRISPR to detect nucleic acid sequences.
If you are in Chicago to attend the AACC Annual Scientific Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo, July 29 through August 2, stop by Orchard Software’s booth: #2267. As always, Orchard’s booth will be an attraction you do not want to miss!
Orchard Software’s 2018 User Group & Symposium was a fun-filled two days chock-full of learning opportunities. Held in downtown Indianapolis, the symposium was attended by more than 100 customers from 35 states, as well as many Orchard employees. Based on feedback from attendees, we are busy making plans for our 2019 meeting. If you missed this year’s event, or would like to come back for more, save the 2019 dates: June 18 & 19.
In July 2018, Orchard Software celebrates its 25th anniversary. Through years of steady growth, we have gained specialized experience by actively listening to our customers and to industry needs. As point-of-care testing (POCT) gains greater traction in value-based healthcare, Orchard Software continues to develop tools that help the laboratory be an integral part of providing superior patient care. Orchard, along with other vendors with a shared interest in POCT, is sponsoring several POC Group webinars in 2018. The POC Group webinars are produced by Whitehat Communications and are focused on topics of interest to the laboratory and POCT industry. The free webinar sessions offer P.A.C.E.® credit opportunities and are given by experts in the lab and POCT market.
New Orleans hosted the 23rd Annual Executive War College (EWC) May 1–2. As usual, EWC was a venue for relevant discussions about the current healthcare industry trends that impact the laboratory. The 2018 EWC was aptly described as a “coming together of lab leadership” by Orchard’s EVP of Corporate/Business Development, Matt Modleski.
Orchard’s 2018 User Group & Symposium will take place June 20 and 21 in Indianapolis, IN. Designed for both current and prospective users, attendees can “take the pulse” of the laboratory market, meet Orchard employees, and network with other Orchard Software users. Most sessions include ASCLS P.A.C.E.® credits toward continuing education requirements.
