Incite’s Evolution

Incite Health, Inc. chose their name because of their passion to “incite” change in the healthcare industry by providing insightful scientific solutions to support optimal clinical decision making. The lab started under another name as a contract research organization performing flow cytometry testing and evolved into a specialized clinical laboratory supporting clinical studies for customers requiring a CAP/CLIA regulated environment. They eventually sold the contract research organization division, added immunology and pharmacogenomics testing, and are continuing to grow by adding both research and clinical order choices and customized clinical testing.

Incite’s Path with Orchard Software

With their growth, they needed a laboratory information system (LIS) to manage testing and reduce manual processes. After vetting five LIS vendors, they selected Orchard Software. The lab uses Orchard® Enterprise Lab™ and Orchard® Outreach™ to support their clients. Orchard’s LIS demonstration highlighted an impressive array of features and functionality that the lab felt met all their requirements with the added benefit of the scalability needed to continue expanding testing.

LIS-automated Processes Bring Efficiency Gains

Their unique testing menu includes lab developed tests and other innovative flow cytometry projects that they design, validate, and create panels for. The lab was largely using manual processes such as paper requisitions for ordering, test tracking with Excel spreadsheets, and manual reporting.

“The ability for our customers to be able to access Orchard Enterprise Lab for test orders is working really well and is really beneficial to us. We have a customer that orders batch tests, delivers samples, and we create a batch report for them. We use Orchard for that, and it’s been a huge help for us,” said Kathy Schroeder, Incite’s flow cytometry and immunology laboratory manager and safety officer.

System Administration Expertise Enables Incite Health’s Specialized Testing

With a small staff and remote IT support, the clinical staff at Incite Health have limited time for training, configuration, and system troubleshooting. To alleviate that issue, they decided to implement Orchard’s System Administration (SA) program to gain the extra help they needed.

The lab’s unique needs for specialized customers goes beyond typical lab ordering, so having a dedicated SA analyst has helped navigate that terrain. Overall, the SA program has been a great fit, significantly improving the relationship between Orchard and Incite Health.

Looking ahead, Incite Health is focused on further system configuration to meet the unique needs of their specialized customers.
