Bronson Lab POC Quality Compliance Coordinator Erika Deaton-Mohney MLS(ASCP), CPP, will discuss problems that can and will occur within a point-of-care program and how to use root cause and process improvement tools across a multidisciplinary team to have a successful program.

Speaker Biography

Erika has a bachelor’s degree in health sciences from Grand Valley State University, an MLS(ASCP) certification, and more than 30 years’ experience in the laboratory, with 10 years in POCT. She is currently a Laboratory Point of Care Quality and Compliance Coordinator at Bronson Healthcare Laboratories in Michigan, which includes 5 hospital CAP oversight and more than 80 clinics, urgent care, and emergency department sites with Joint Commission overview.

In ADLM, she is chair of the Nominations Committee, faculty for the 2025 Annual Scientific Meeting Point of Care University program, speaker for the ADLM Point of Care Conference, and sits on the 2026 ADLM Annual Meeting Organization Committee. Erika has co-authored numerous papers, ADLM learning content, the Point-of-Care Testing: A “How To” Guide for the Non-Laboratorian, and presented ADLM point-of-care content over the past years. She has earned the ADLM Point of Care Testing Specialist certificate and the ADLM Point of Care Professional certification.

Her professional areas of interest are in forming collaborative relationships with other departments’ multidisciplinary teams in the laboratory and throughout the hospitals. Erika also enjoys sharing her point-of-care knowledge through authoring and speaking engagements. When she’s not working, her favorite place to be is on, or near, Lake Michigan looking for rocks on the beach or cruising the waters until sunset.
