Orchy at the Apostle's Grave

In a nod to an upcoming holiday, Orchy visited the resting place of a venerated, fifth-century bishop, also known as the “Apostle of Ireland,” who is credited for banishing snakes from the island (though this has been debated). Today, he is best known for his feast day of March 17th.

At the site is a cathedral from the 15th century that stands on the grounds of a Benedictine Monastery that was built in 1183. In the early 1900s, so many pilgrims were removing soil from the site that they installed the large granite slab pictured here to stop the practice.

Orchy enjoyed the rich history of the building, which houses crosses from the 9th, 10th, and 12th centuries, as well as touring the nearby town. If you know where Orchy was visiting, enter your guess below!
