Dr. Andrew Fletcher will speak on March 17th about how to develop a laboratory stewardship committee and get your lab on the way to having a successful laboratory stewardship program in place.

Date & Time

March 17, 2023 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM ET

Summary

Examples of laboratory stewardship projects are widespread and often rely on the creation of a laboratory stewardship committee to drive success. While this is undoubtedly a great way to start driving initiatives, sometimes resources are simply not available or perhaps support for a stewardship committee is lacking. In this presentation we will explore what it takes to create a laboratory stewardship committee and consider effective alternatives if such a committee is not feasible. In most cases successful initiatives can also be driven by an existing hospital utilization committee, compliance program, or driven by College of American Pathology accreditation requirements, all of which lighten the workload and remove barriers for laboratorians to get started in laboratory stewardship today.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe how to create a laboratory stewardship committee using a committee charter.
  2. Explain how to integrate stewardship interventions into an existing utilization review committee structure.
  3. Discuss the role of stewardship interventions in an existing compliance program structure.
  4. Summarize how the College of American Pathology accreditation standards support laboratory stewardship.
